Jason Pratt: January 9, 2018

Join us on Mission 18-01, the first mission of 2018, as we search for the "real Jesus"! In it's December 2017 cover article, the National Geographic features this statement: "The Real Jesus What Archaeology Reveals About His Life." This article was written by archaeologist turn journalist, Kristin Romey, who seeks out guidance and advice from Franciscan, Father Alliata, and former priest and co-chair of the Jesus Seminar, John Dominic Crossan. Rather than an earnest look at how so much of archaeology confirms the claims of Scripture over and over this article is a very subtle defiance of Scripture in an attempt to compare tradition with archaeology rather than Scripture with archaeology. Tradition is more highly esteemed in Roman and Greek Orthodox Catholicism than is Scripture so this is no surprise. This is also consistent with what Jesus declares in Mathew 16:13-17 as He asks His disciples, "Whom do men say that the Son of man am?" This will serve as our launch pad as we review this article along side some statements from William F. Albright, an archaeologist and focus of this week's Scriptural Scientist Spotlight.
