The ACLU Should Be Happy About the Post-Katrina Violence in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />New Orleans

The Left never ceases to amaze me. Now that we've witnessed their finest hour in New Orleans, all they can do is complain about the rape, looting, assault, and murder. Yet moral anarchy is what they've worked so tirelessly to achieve in America this past half century, and I for one, think we should give credit where credit is due.
Thanks to the labors of groups like the American Civil Liberties Union, the U.S. Supreme Court in 1962 ruled it unconstitutional for students in America's public schools to recite prayers in class. In 1963, the Supreme Court said it was constitutionally out of bounds to sanction student-initiated Bible reading. In 1980, the High Court ruled the Ten Commandments could not be posted in America's schools. In 2000, the Court outlawed voluntary, student-initiated prayer before the start of a high school sporting event. And in a chickens-coming-home-to-roost sort of a way, it was 1987 when the Supreme Court ruled that Louisiana (and by precedent, every other state in the union) could not require that evolution and creation both be taught. Preference was given, of course, to the theory of evolution.
So why is the secular left not overcome with delight at the success evidenced in their social engineering project? Evolution points out that all life competes, and the fittest survive. That's the baseline for human social consciousness every public school child-whether in New Orleans or New York-learns. Why shouldn't those who can, take what they want and do what they will to less able people around them? Why respect the property of an absent merchant? The person of a defenseless woman? The life of some old biddy who's not long for this world anyway? The credit for the worst of human behavior we've seen in the flooded avenues of the Big Easy goes to those who've marched up the left side of the street for years. They should take a bow. Because now we see where they've been leading.
Wherever we find people acting like wild animals-as if might makes right and survival of the fittest is a normal code of conduct-know that the barbaric values derive from a Darwinian worldview which the ACLU has made sure is inculcated into America's youth. Yale University history professor Donald Kagan acknowledges the consequences of the God-is-dead worldview: "If both religion and reason are removed, all that remains is will and power where the only law is that of tooth and claw."
America's public educators have become promoters of a humanistic worldview that tells millions of students God does not matter (forgive me if I neglected to acknowledge the National Education Association's profound contribution to this effort as well), and it is reaping dire consequences for students and for anyone unfortunate enough to confront the sewage in New Orleans.
According to the U.S. Departments of Education, Commerce, Justice, and Health and Human Services, our marked increase in violence and crime started circa 1962 (remember that Supreme Court date I mentioned earlier?). Crime rates during the Great Depression, by comparison, remained relatively low and prior to 1962 fairly stable.
The crime spree in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina or in Los Angeles after the Rodney King verdict could occur in any American city. Benjamin Franklin wrote, "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters."
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Robert Winthrop agreed, noting: "People in a word, must necessarily be controlled, either by a power within them or by a power without them; either by the Word of God or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible or by the bayonet."
In 1854, the U.S. House Judiciary Committee similarly weighed in: "Laws will not have permanence or power without the sanction of religious sentiment and without a firm belief that there is a Power above us that will reward our virtues and punish our vices."
If Americans continue to allow the ACLU and other lefties to propagate the lie that the Constitution prohibits teaching the Ten Commandments or school children praying or saying "one nation under God", then we should not be shocked with libertine results or the tyranny that will be needed to control animal impulses among the population. As a nation, we must choose between moral law or marshal law, between being one nation under God or one nation under man. And then give credit wherever it's due.
