Crosstalk looks back each Friday at news stories that are of interest to you.  Here’s a sample of what Jim presented from the first half hour:

–Hurricane Milton is suspected to have killed at least 16 people with St. Petersburg receiving approximately 18 inches of rain.

–House speaker Mike Johnson slammed the Biden/Harris administration’s response to Hurricane Helene during an interview with the Morning Wire News Podcast from the Daily Wire.

–Jim presented audio clips featuring Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and Senator Tom Cotton over the possible diversion of hurricane aid.  Were adequate FEMA funds available or not?  Did some go or not go to illegal aliens?

–The number of Americans filing for unemployment rose much more than expected last week to the highest in 14 months driven up in part by the impact of Hurricane Helene.

–An audio clip of VP Kamala Harris from The View on Monday saying nothing comes to mind that she would have done differently regarding, “…most of the decisions that have had impact.”

–Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said during an interview that there needed to be more regulation and censorship on the internet or else the government will lose control.

–60 Minutes interview featured VP Kamala Harris where she had her feet held to the fire on the issue of immigration.

–Minnesota Governor Tim Walz reiterated his support for abolishing the electoral college and switching to a national popular vote as the sole means of electing presidents and their running mates.  The Harris campaign walked back this claim and stated that this isn’t an official campaign position.

–On Thursday, during a speech at the Detroit Economic Club, Donald Trump announced his intention to make interest on car loans fully tax deductible if elected. 

–With just a month to go until the election, a new survey projects that a decisive share of religious Americans will not turn out to vote.

–On Monday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was given a promotion to senior adviser to the president. 

–An Afghan citizen living in Oklahoma has been charged with plotting a terror attack on election day on behalf of the Islamic State in which he and an underage co-conspirator expected to die as martyrs.
