The Genesis Flood Was the Genesis Flood a worldwide flood or a local flood? Does it make any difference? This topic will be presented in three sessions: 1. The Flood and the Bible 2. The Flood and geology 3. The Flood and the fossil record Part 1: The Flood and the Bible Many Christians do not see the Flood as an important part of Scripture. As a result many simply believe, as the world believes, that the Genesis Flood was a local flood. However, when we read Scripture the words used to describe the Flood clearly indicate it was a worldwide flood. In this session we examine what it would mean if the Flood was a local flood. For example, if the Flood was local, then God would have repeatedly broken His promise of never again destroying the world by such a flood. If the Flood was local, then why did Noah have to build an Ark? We read in Scripture that the writers of the New Testament believed in the historical fact of the Flood. Finally, if the Flood was local and not worldwide, we undermine the foundation for the Gospel of Jesus Christ by denying that death was the result of sin.
