John Loeffler: August 14, 2017

Listening to the talking heads about tax transfer schemes, tax reform, tax evasion, and taxing the wealthy, is enough to cause anyone to worry.  In this week's boralogue, John looks at the truth behind taxes and how they really work.  When you tax something, you get less of it.  Plus John dissects Al Gore's comments from a CNN town hall meeting in our clip of the week.

President Trump gave a speech in Poland last month praising the West and all of its accomplishments.  There were some, despite enjoying the benefits of Western culture, who disagreed with him.   Bruce Thornton (www.fresnostate.edu), Humanities Professor at California State Fresno examines the disdain in academia and among the elites for Western culture, and digs into history to show how society based on freedom is both rare and best.

A bubble is looming in the financial markets.  Can we spot the patterns that lead up to it or will it catch us by surprise yet again?  George Gilder (www.discovery.org), Senior Fellow with the Discovery Institute, discusses monetary policy, how currency and markets affect everything else in society, and what to watch for in the future.

John’s quote of the week:

"The very same people that are telling you that you're a very bad society have to doublespeak it because those people who are coming here know it's much better here.  And the people who are telling us how bad it is here, they don't seem to want to leave either."
