In a recent TV interview on Brannon Howse Live, Joe Hoft discussed the contentious raid on Mar-a-Lago that has led to what many believe is a politically motivated and illegal federal indictment of President Trump. Hoft highlighted the reported lack of assistance from the National Archives in safeguarding Trump's personal belongings, as well as the subsequent involvement of the FBI. He raised concerns about a potential setup against Trump and questioned the legality of the raid, citing the Presidential Records Act. Furthermore, Hoft drew comparisons between Trump's situation and the handling of classified information by Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, emphasizing what he is clearly a double standard.

Refusal to Assist Trump and Concerns of Setup:

Hoft expressed astonishment at the National Archives' refusal to assist President Trump in relocating his personal belongings following his departure from the White House. He suggested that this refusal seemed like a deliberate setup orchestrated against Trump. While past presidents have received support from the agency in handling their personal documents, Trump was seemingly denied this assistance.

Illegality of the Raid and the Presidential Records Act:

Citing attorney Mike Davis, Hoft argued that the FBI's raid on Trump's home lacked precedent and was an illegal act. According to the Presidential Records Act, President Trump had the right to take any documents he desired with him upon leaving office. Hoft drew attention to a case involving former President Bill Clinton, where he was allowed to retain files and discs containing sensitive information. This case established that the President possesses the authority to decide which documents to take, regardless of their classification.

Double Standards and Comparisons to Clinton and Biden:

Hoft highlighted the stark contrast between Trump's actions and the handling of classified information by Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. While Clinton kept classified information on a private server, and Biden had classified documents in various locations, they were not presidents at the time. Hoft argued that Trump had the right to possess classified information and likened the situation to borrowing his wife's car to go grocery shopping, while his neighbors (the Clintons and Bidens) stole a car and attempted to cover it up. He emphasized that the comparison between Trump and the other individuals was unfair since Trump acted within his legal rights.

Possible Motives and Withheld Information:

Hoft speculated that the DOJ's involvement and their refusal to disclose the documents seized from Trump's home may be linked to their desire to prevent the release of information related to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. He suggested that the real objective behind the raid might have been to ensure Trump could never use these documents against individuals involved in government scandals. Additionally, he expressed concerns that the tactics employed by Andrew Weissman, a controversial figure involved in the Mueller investigation, were being employed in this case.

Lack of Transparency and Banana Republic Comparisons:

Hoft criticized the lack of transparency surrounding the raid and the refusal to inform Trump's team about the specific documents seized. He pointed out that despite the Espionage Act granting Trump the authority to classify and declassify documents, the DOJ relied on this act to pursue charges against him. Hoft also highlighted the failure to involve local law enforcement in the raid, the denial of consent for the search, and the mistreatment of Trump's attorney during the process. These actions, in Hoft's view, reinforced the perception of a "banana republic" where those in power act with impunity.
