The Atheist's Real Motive

Recently, articles such as this one from the Christian Post have reported that a challenge was made in Florida regarding a Ten Commandments monument outside a local courthouse. Well, the Christian organization that put up the monument, with the permission of the court, refused to remove it. So a local atheist organization has been allowed to put up a monument of its own in the same area. Now, the atheist group’s monument will include a number of quotations regarding religion from people such as American Atheists founder Madalyn Murray O’Hair. The Christian Post article reported that the atheist monument will also include responses to the Ten Commandments:

It also includes a 10-point list that parallels the Ten Commandments monument, specifying the Biblical punishment prescribed for violating each commandment, with Biblical citations. Several of the punishments are simply execution.

If the above quote is correct, then it is an attack on God’s Word by this attempt to discredit the Bible. What’s more, it shows atheists don’t understand the Bible and the Law. I would encourage you to read Bodie Hodge’s (AiG–U.S.) article, “Why Don’t Christians Follow All the Old Testament Laws?” and Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell’s article, “Doesn’t the Bible Condone the Killing of One’s Rebellious Child?”I want to suggest that the real motive of these atheists is to attack Christianity and to impose their religion of atheism. If an atheist is going to put up a monument, it really should say something that reflects their worldview, such as:

Do whatever you want to do, because you’re just an evolved animal. You are your own god. Life is meaningless; when you die you won’t know you ever existed. Become an atheist and live a meaningless life, and then die and never know you were ever alive!

You know—this is really the message of much of the public education system today where students are taught as fact that life (and the universe) evolved by natural processes (naturalism is atheism). It’s no wonder kids turn to drugs, sex, suicide, and so on.The message of Christianity is so different from the hopelessness atheism promotes. God’s Word teaches that man has—was created with—purpose. The life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ has made possible the free gift of eternal life with God for those who receive it, by faith alone, in Christ alone:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. (Romans 1:16)

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8–9)

Note that it is mainly the atheists who lodge lawsuits about the Ten Commandments, crosses, and nativity scenes in public places or the Bible in public schools. Why? It’s because they want their religion of atheism imposed on the culture—they want their anti-God religion forced on us.Christians, we need to wake up and understand that when such God-honoring items are removed, then the atheist religion has been imposed yet again. There is no neutrality when it comes to Jesus Christ—either you’re for Him or you’re against Him (Matthew 12:30). When the Bible, prayer, and creation were by and large thrown out of public schools, they didn’t throw religion out—they really threw Christianity out and replaced this with the religion of naturalism, which is atheism. Eliminating Christianity does not produce a neutral result, but an anti-God one! I urge you to stand boldly on the authority of God’s Word in the face of such attacks from unbelievers, and to share the good news of the gospel of Christ with them.
