Tragedy is unfolding all around us as we witness a society and world that is crumbling.  Just look at the extremist fervor from those insisting that we as a society continue to allow the targeted killing of the unborn.

What must be remembered amidst all of this is that we’re only on this earth for a short time.  The Bible tells us that our life is like a vapor.  We’re here for a time and then it vanishes away.  What happens next?  If you’ve never stopped to think seriously about your eternal destiny, there’s never a better time to begin than right now.

Appearing on Crosstalk to help listeners do just that was Dr. Richard Schmidt.  Dr. Schmidt is the pastor of Union Grove Baptist Church and also heads Prophecy Focus Ministries.  He is speaker on the WVCY-TV program Prophecy Focus.  Prior to his current pastoral ministry, he spent 32 years in law enforcement including becoming acting sheriff of Milwaukee County in 2017 until his retirement in 2019.  He’s the author of some books on Bible prophecy and a book we’re discussing today, Are You Going to a Better Place?

Why do people want to ignore the question concerning their eternal destiny?  Dr. Schmidt admitted that in his case, for the first 16 years of his life, he wasn’t sure where he was going.  He was taking the advice of what others told him.  Relatives, family and even his pastor didn’t seem to know the answer to the question of how you can know for sure you’re going to a better place when you die.

The bottom line is that apart from Scripture, we have no assurance, outside of hearsay and arguments, that we’re going to heaven one day.

Dr. Schmidt presented his testimony where he first heard the Gospel.  This was an important moment for him because with his Christian upbringing, he was well aware of Christ’s birth, death and resurrection.  The problem is, up to this point, he, “…didn’t get the real punch-line of why Christ came.”

If you need assurance of salvation or you know someone who does, listen to this edition of Crosstalk where you’ll hear the following:

Why Dr. Schmidt believes the Bible is the rule of law.
Why we must think about our death and our eternal destination.
Does baptism, at birth or even later, merit salvation?
The judgment of Revelation 20 and those who haven’t accepted Christ.
Questions from listeners cap off this hope-filled broadcast.
