Jim began by noting II Timothy 3 and he commented how when reading this it’s as though you’re hearing the news from today with men being, “…lovers of themselves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; and having a form of godliness..”  It also tells us that “…evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”  Combine this with what you see in Romans 1, (the marks of men/nations that have pulled away from the Lord) and you can see we’re a nation in great spiritual need.

He also communicated that the solution doesn’t rest with the person in the White House, the people in the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Supreme Court or those in state or local government.  Why?  It’s because at the heart of these issues is a spiritual problem.  “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)  Isn’t that where we’re at today?

We find in Proverbs 30:5 that it says, “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him.”

Now note these verses from Psalm 119:

“Forever, Oh Lord, they word is settled in heaven.” (verse 89)

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (verse 105)

“Thy word is very pure: therefore they servant loveth it.” (verse 140)

“Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.” (verse 160)

Then there’s John 17:17—“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”  We see a lot of lies, deception and falsehood in society.

1 Peter 125—“But the word of the Lord endureth forever.  And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

Jim highlighted these verses because of the troublesome times in which we live.  Yes, we should continue to make our calls to Washington and let local government know how we feel as well.  However, the need we have is primarily a spiritual one.

So with this in mind, Jim asked listeners to respond to the following question: what verse of Scripture do you believe we need for such a time as this and why do you feel that way?  Hear how they responded when you review this edition of Crosstalk.
